TATTOO AFTERCARE
Proper aftercare is crucial for healing your new tattoo and making sure it stays vibrant and healthy for years to come. Here’s everything you need to know after getting tattooed by Amanda Lugo at Rare Panda Tats inside Tattoo Gallery in Ocala:
Right After Your Tattoo:
Amanda will cover your tattoo with either Saniderm (a breathable adhesive film) or plastic wrap, depending on what’s best for your piece.
If you’re wrapped in Saniderm:
-
Leave the first piece on for 24 hours, then remove it gently and wash the area.
-
Pat dry and apply a second piece of Saniderm, which can be worn for up to 4–5 days.
-
If the wrap becomes irritated, remove it and switch to a traditional aftercare routine.
-
Once you remove it for good, clean and moisturize the tattoo regularly with unscented lotion.
If you’re wrapped in plastic wrap:
-
Remove it after 1–2 hours.
-
Wash the area gently with warm water and unscented soap, then pat dry with a clean towel.
-
Let the tattoo breathe—no re-wrapping!
-
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or Aquaphor 2–3 times a day for the first week.
General Healing Tips:
-
Do not pick, peel, or scratch your tattoo—even if it’s itchy or flaky.
-
Avoid soaking your tattoo. That means no swimming, hot tubs, or long baths for at least 2–3 weeks.
-
No tanning or direct sun exposure until your tattoo is fully healed. After that, always use sunscreen to protect the ink!
-
Avoid tight or abrasive clothing over the tattooed area while it heals.
-
Wash your hands before touching your tattoo to prevent infection.
-
Healing usually takes 2–4 weeks, but it varies from person to person.
